I returned home from Spring Fair International at the NEC in Birmingham completely exhausted but glad I visited. My tired feet stumbled (literally at times) upon some great companies and wonderful new products I hope to be stocking here at Ginger & May later in the year. The Spring Fair is a huge, absolutely huge, trade show dedicated to the homes, interiors and gifts market, with exhibitors from all over showcasing their existing and latest collections, primarily for retail buyers to shop. It's like shopping on an industrial scale. I read that there are 17 miles of aisles between the exhibitors, spread over 12 huge halls the size of aircraft hangers, of which I suspect it would be impossible to visit all, even if going each of the 5 days it's on. After a paltry effort over just a day and a half my legs were aching so much the pain interrupted my sleep! And not much does that!
There's lots to follow up on over the next month or two with regard to getting some of the wonderful finds on our shelves and I'll keep you posted. Stylish clocks suitable for children and teenagers were something I particularly kept my eyes open for and I wasn't disappointed, so we'll open a "clock department" very soon. Night lights were another and I was particularly struck by these solar powered metal Night Night Lights from the Original Metal Box Company. The three new designs pictured below will be up on their own website to buy soon (www.theoriginalmetalbox.com), and in the meantime it's worth a look for the bear, rhino, elephant and robot they have already, also available from Not on the High Street.
