Founded in 2010 by two sisters who, between them, have seven sons, The Old Rectory Print Studio in Co. Wicklow, Ireland, designs timeless prints and produces from them exquisite clothes, pyjamas, blankets and sleeping bags for babies and children.
The prints used for three of the designs, Rabbit, Owl and Birdhouse, are inspired by the scrap books and sketches of Joanna and Stephanie's late grandfather, Dr Wolsey Sloan, said to be an avid observer of wildlife and early 20th century life.
These large scale prints, in lovely fresh shades of red, green and blue, have a wonderful depth of detail in the animals and birds, quite unusual for children's designs. In fact, a large part of their appeal, and why I personally think they're so striking, is that they're not in any way childish. These are prints that would be equally at home on soft furnishing or clothing for adults.
It is the baby blankets and baby sleeping bags made from these three prints, Owl, Rabbit and Birdhouse, that we are delighted to now be stocking at Ginger & May and buying a blanket and sleep bag together will save you 10%!
Made from organic cotton using only water based inks and no solvents, the fabrics are both kind to child and environment.
The Old Rectory Print Studio also run screenprinting and textile courses and, should I ever find myself visiting Wicklow, I might just co-incide dates so that I can attend one. For more information on their courses visit www.theoldrectory.ie
